The new Old Trail Cross Country Course, known as "The Lindy Bain Loop" in honor of the long-serving CC coach at Western Albemarle High School, was unveiled Sunday at an event in Western Park, located in Old Trail Village.
Beights Corporation made the donation of the land to the County for park and additional donation of land for the Course. Said Gaylon Beights at the event Sunday, "My partners and I are so pleased that the runners have been using Old Trail Village since its beginning. We're happy that we could help the students with the course that they need, and we look forward to watching the program grow."
The new course was made possible with donations and support from the Friends of Western Albemarle Cross Country, Track and Field, a 501c3 entity created to support running programs at the public high school. Collins Engineering provided design and layout for course; Old Trail Turf Care provided installation and build-out. A local Eagle Scout will build a footbridge for the course as his Eagle project this summer.
Several news outlets were on-hand to enjoy the pleased reaction of local residents and the student athletes of WAHS.
